First stop was visiting some of dad's TMC buddies - Duke Drinkard, Charlie Sharpe and their lovely wives in Columbia. After spending an enjoyable evening reliving these Merry Pranksters' exploits, we headed to Cleveland, SC and made Solitude Pointe our home for a few days. Not only is this campground peaceful and beautiful, but the owners are very special people - there is no question as to why they have such a large extended family! During our stay we met "Cat In The Box" - a very sweet, friendly 'free to good home' cat. Dad was concerned that he would find a litterbox in the shower along with a stowaway. |

The next day we decided to take in some sights and do a short hike to Twin Falls. A nice drive on the way to the top of Glass Mountain - turn at Bob's Place (Scatter Corner) and you are almost there. This was a nice 1/4 mile hike to view the falls, which are rated spectacular. The falls were beautiful even during this time of drought - this photo does not really show how pretty the waterfall on right really is. On the way back down the trail, dad stopped to check out Buck's waterwheel. |

The grand finale of the South Carolina segment of our trip - to visit with old friends, check out the Riverbend Racing Museum and celebrate the Legendary Raymond Parks' birthday. JB and Willavene Day are the gracious hosts for this annual event. Temperatures were in the 100's but it did not stop the tellling of racing tales. Pictured left is dad with his very, very close friend Bill Chubbuck. Isn't she a beauty - 1940 Ford Woody Wagon proudly on display. Dad and Cotton Owens - lower right photo

Dad with Glen Wood - they won many races together and shared a lot of good times - upper left. Dad with Bud Moore - upper right. Dad with Rex White - you never know where these two may show up - left. And of course, a trip to this area would not be complete without a visit to Greeneville-Pickens Speedway - below. |
